The agreement, in plain words.

The short version

Dash is made by Oasis Software. You may use it on the devices you own. What you write in it is yours, not ours. Dash Sync is free and turns on when you sign in. We make no promise that a piece of software will never fail you, and nothing you keep here should be the only copy of something you cannot lose.

Using Dash means agreeing to what follows. If you do not agree, do not use it.

What you may do with Dash

We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Dash on the devices you own or control, under the rules of the store you installed it from. That is a licence, not a sale: the app itself, its design and its name stay ours.

You may not sell it, rent it, take it apart to rebuild it, or strip out the parts that identify it as ours — except where the law gives you that right regardless of what we write here.

What you write stays yours

Your stones, the people you keep, your thoughts, your growth: yours. We claim no ownership of any of it and no right to use it for anything beyond running the service you asked for. If you turn on Dash Sync, you are giving us permission to store and transmit it so it reaches your other devices, and that permission ends when you delete it or close your account.

Dash Sync

Dash works with no account and no payment. Dash Sync adds a cloud copy of your entries so they reach your other devices. It is free, on every platform, and there is nothing to buy.

Signing in is what turns it on. Sign in on another device with the same account and your entries follow you there. Sign out and your entries stay on the device, exactly as they were.

Dash Sync is not switched on in any country at the moment. The app works in full on the device, and Backup & Sync simply is not there to turn on. We will say so here when that changes.

One device holds one account's entries. If you sign in on a device that already holds another account's Dash, that Dash is cleared from it to make room — so sign out and back in as someone else is a way to lose what was written on that device, and there is no undoing it.

Free does not mean guaranteed. We may change how syncing works, or stop offering it, and if we do we will say so before it takes effect. Your entries stay on your device either way.

You can delete the cloud copy at any time from Backup & Sync in the app on your phone, which deletes the account with it and leaves the Dash on your device untouched.

Using it decently

Do not use Dash to break the law, to store what you have no right to store, or to interfere with the service or with anyone else's use of it. Do not try to reach parts of our systems that were not offered to you.

Dash is not for children under 13.

What we do not promise

Dash is provided as it is. We do not promise it will always be available, always be correct, or never lose anything. Syncing depends on a network and on services we do not control, and any of them can fail.

Keep your own copy of anything you cannot bear to lose. That is the honest advice, and it is the only sensible way to treat any app, including this one.

To the extent the law allows, we exclude the implied warranties that would otherwise apply, and our liability to you for anything arising out of Dash is limited to what you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty United States dollars, whichever is greater. None of this takes away rights your local consumer law gives you and will not let us contract out of.

Ending it

You can stop using Dash whenever you like, and delete your account in the app on your phone under More → Backup & Sync → Delete account. We may suspend or end access if it is being used in a way that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. If we ever retire Dash entirely, we will say so with enough notice for you to get your entries out.

For apps installed from the App Store

Apple requires some of this to be said explicitly, so here it is. This agreement is between you and Oasis Software, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for Dash or its contents. Support and maintenance are ours, not Apple's — write to us and not to them. If the app fails to conform to any warranty, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; beyond that refund, Apple has no warranty obligation at all, and every other claim, loss, cost or expense is ours to answer for.

Any claim that Dash infringes someone's intellectual property is ours to defend, not Apple's. You confirm you are not in a country under a United States embargo or designated by the United States as supporting terrorism, and that you are not on any United States list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Anything that meaningfully changes what you are agreeing to will be said plainly rather than buried, and continuing to use Dash after that is how you accept it.

Which law applies

Oasis Software is in the United States, and these terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not deprive you of the protections your own country's law gives you.
